  • Overview

    The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the evolving safety needs of CARD’s headquarters and centers. This position ensures that CARD is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and provides training and guidance to managers in multiple states. Helping us stay compliant and safe during times of emergency response will be a top priority.  Ensures timely processing of accident and incident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and make certain that adequate investigations were conducted. Works closely with managers to improve workers’ compensation results through safety recommendations, including loss prevention and claims management. This position requires analytical skills to help provide root cause analysis based on claims data.


    • Conduct semiannual safety performance audits and inspections.
    • Partner with Facilities department on ensuring timely and accurate solutions/fixes.
    • Develop and track action items as a result of safety performance audits.
    • Conduct specialized department and/or monthly management training as required or as appropriate.
    • Facilitate the blood borne pathogen kits
    • Assist management in investigation of accidents as necessary, review accident reports and track action items.
    • Assists with updating department safety rules; maintain current booklets.
    • Facilitate the maintenance of appropriate safety records.
    • Ability to read chemical labels and distinguish chemical properties a plus.
    • Facilitate emergency crisis management programs and conduct annual employee evacuation drills.
    • Assists with the management of various safety programs, such as the blood borne pathogen program.
    • Responsibility for task/project management.
    • Coordinate Emergency Response, Incident/Accident/Illness Injury Investigations and General Safety Procedures and/or Programs.
    • Provide input to Manager and interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues.
    • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) on industrial safety and health regulations, policies, standards, and programs such as federal and state specific OSHA.
    • Coordinate any OSHA related complaints, consultations, and similar matters.
    • Traveling between facilities may be required.
    • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
    • Conducts safety committee meetings routinely in person and via webinar.
    • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, is aware of and consults for all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
    • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
    • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
    • Follow all CARD quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

    • Understands department’s key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals both individually and as a team.

    • Broad, general knowledge of health and safety regulations
    • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a health and safety role, preferably a health environment
    • One or more years’ experience in implementing safety programs in a manufacturing environment is required.
    • Valid Driver’s License or ability to obtain one with current insurance coverage.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • College degree or equivalent experience in Occupational Safety, Engineering or Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
    • Safety industry certification preferred.
    • Active BLS certification preferred.
